Buddleia davidii

Size: Depends on variety

Lighting requirements: Full to part sun

Seasonal interest: Blooms spring-fall

Winter: Drops leaves and may die back in harsh winters

Note: There's a lot of talk about this Asia-native. It's on quite a few invasive species list (not in Texas at this time). Invasive plants are a big concern, of course. However, I have not personally seen them growing in native areas here (if you have, please let me know where). The other issue brought up about this plant is that it is not a host plant for any butterfly species here. This could be a problem if other plants are not offered as hosts. Butterfly Bushes are excellent nectar sources that draw the butterflies in. It is my opinion that you'd be fine planting them here in Texas unless they end up going on the invasive species list here. Consider planting other host plants in your garden to help all the butterflies that will surely visit when you grow Butterfly Bushes. Check out my growing butterfly page for suggestions.
