Aka: American Planetree, American Sycamore, Buttonwood,  Buttonball tree, and Eastern Sycamore.

Native to: Southeastern Canada and the central and eastern United States

Lighting requirements: Full sun

Winter: Drops leaves

Seasonal interest: distinctive bark all year, yellow and brown fall color

Drought tolerance: Moderate once established, but they prefer moist soils. They are commonly seen along creek beds and used in sites with saturated soils.

Hardiness Zones: 4-9

Soil requirements: Moist and well-drained.

pH range: 5.0-8.0

Notes: Large, fast-growing tree that can be messy. It has weak limbs that break easily in wind and ice. Pollution tolerant.
