Native to: southeastern Idaho, south-central Montana, and western Wyoming south to Arizona, New Mexico, south-central Texas, and northern Mexico 

Lighting requirements: Full to part sun

Height: up to 45'

Width: 20-30'

Winter: Drops leaves

Seasonal interest: Bright red and yellow fall color

Drought tolerance: Very drought tolerant once established

Hardiness Zones: 3-8

Soil requirements: Tolerant of many types of soil, even limestone-based. 

pH range: Prefers slightly acidic to neutral, but there are reports of it doing well in black gumbo soil with a pH of 8+!
