Scientific Name: Phlox paniculata

Common names: Garden Phlox, Summer Phlox

Lighting requirements: Full sun to partial shade

Height: 2-4 feet

Seasonal interest: Summer to early fall, with clusters of fragrant flowers in various colors (white, pink, purple, red)

Drought tolerance: Moderate

Deer resistance: Yes (I've heard of them browsing)

Attracts: Butterflies, hummingbirds

Hardiness Zones: 3-8

Soil requirements: Well-drained, rich, loamy soil

pH range: 6.0 - 7.0

Native to: Eastern United States and Canada

Potential disease issues: Powdery mildew, botrytis blight, and root rot in poorly drained soils (I've never had any issues)

Fun Facts: Garden Phlox can also be used in cut flower arrangements. 

Notes: This plant seems to be a heavy feeder. In my experience iron has been the first deficiency to show up. Other than that, these guys bloom their fool heads off! Once in your beds, they should bless you with volunteers. You can spread them around the garden or share them with friends. I don't consider the spreading a nuisance, but some may not share that opinion.
