Native to: Southwestern United States, Mexico

Winter look: Dies back to the ground 

Seasonal interest: Late summer to fall (clusters of lavender-blue, fuzzy flowers)

Drought tolerance: Moderate (needs regular water during dry periods)

Soil requirements: Moist, well-draining soil

Attracts: Butterflies (especially Monarchs and Queen butterflies), bees

Notes: A favorite for butterfly gardens, particularly for attracting migrating Monarchs. It spreads easily and can form dense patches; it may require occasional thinning to control growth. 

*Keeping it under control is easy with regular maintenance; however, this plant will take over if you are not devoted to it!
